Project Objective:

•This project aims to offer rehabilitation therapies to children and adolescents with disabilities and neurodivergences.
•With the implementation of rehabilitation therapy rooms that include high-tech robots and suitable environments, designed to improve motor, cognitive and social skills, the project will help these children overcome barriers and achieve effective inclusion in society and a dignified life.
•The project will meet the growing needs in the northern region of Veracruz, northern Puebla, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala and will provide an accessible and personalized solution for each beneficiary.

Long-term aspiration: In the long term, the project seeks to establish a replicable model of care for children with disabilities, allowing the integration of advanced technologies in rehabilitation centers worldwide.

Robotics in child rehabilitation has proven to be an effective tool, as it stimulates cognitive and motor areas in a playful and interactive way. These innovative solutions not only complement traditional therapies but enhance the impact by generating emotional connections with children, improving the rate of adherence to treatments.

"Future in Motion: Robotic Rehabilitation for Inclusion and Development" seeks to transform the lives of 1,150 children and adolescents with disabilities and neurodivergences in the regions of Veracruz Norte, Norte de Puebla, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala through advanced and personalized therapies that promote their inclusion and integral development. The number of hours of therapy for beneficiaries may be increased each year by up to 10%.

In Latin America, millions of children with disabilities face barriers to accessing education and rehabilitation, limiting their opportunities.

This project will use innovative technologies such as TOi Robot® and Nao Robot, designed to stimulate the senses and improve motor, cognitive and social skills.

Through playful activities and interactive therapies, children will be able to better connect with the world around them, increasing their motivation and participation in their rehabilitation process.

Nao Robot, with its ability to interact visually, verbally and tactilely, generates an emotional bond that facilitates learning, while TOi Robot® stimulates six of the seven human senses, optimizing treatments.

These inclusive tools are adapted to various ages and conditions, ensuring that each child receives the support they need to reach their full potential.

The project will not only improve the quality of life for the children, but will also provide a positive impact on their families and community, creating a more inclusive and equitable environment.

Community Assessment:

This project seeks to address an urgent and growing need in northern Veracruz: specialized therapeutic care for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These children, presenting various levels of severity, currently have very limited access to quality treatment centers, whether public or private. Additionally, there are no institutions in the region using robotic technology to support their therapies, despite proven evidence that such tools significantly enhance engagement, emotional responsiveness, and therapeutic outcomes.

Failing to equip local care centers with this technology severely limits the expansion of their treatment capacity and the effectiveness of their interventions. As a result, waiting lists grow longer, and children’s progress is slower. The project also considers children with other neurodivergent conditions, such as ADHD or Down syndrome, as secondary beneficiaries, depending on availability and prioritization after serving the primary group.

The needs assessment was conducted through a structured and participatory process led by specialists at CRIT Veracruz (Children’s Rehabilitation Center). Drawing on statistical data, clinical evaluations, and the experience of other CRIT locations across Mexico, the team validated the high demand for ASD-specific services in the region.

Interviews were conducted with parents and guardians of neurodivergent children to better understand their challenges, experiences, and hopes for their children’s care. The insights gained from these conversations, combined with institutional research and community-level data, led to a well-grounded and comprehensive diagnosis of the current situation.

Beneficiary families played a key role in shaping this project. Through interviews conducted by CRIT Veracruz professionals, parents openly shared their children’s needs and the challenges they face when accessing specialized care. Their contributions helped to clearly define the project’s priorities and highlighted the value of incorporating robotic-assisted therapy into treatment protocols.

Their willingness to engage and collaborate has been instrumental in validating the proposed solution and ensuring it responds directly to their reality.

The project planning process has been a joint effort between CRIT Veracruz and the Rotary Club of Poza Rica. CRIT’s clinical and technical teams took the lead in designing the therapeutic approach, identifying the appropriate technology, and establishing the operational model. Their knowledge, combined with support from CRIT’s national headquarters, provided a strong foundation for the initiative.

Several planning and coordination meetings have taken place between the Rotary Club and CRIT leadership, focusing on funding strategies, community engagement, and institutional partnerships. The two organizations have a history of collaboration, especially in supporting children with cerebral palsy through the donation and repair of special wheelchairs. This existing relationship has created a high level of trust and coordination, which will be key to the project's success.

• Specialized, intensive training for therapists in the clinical and therapeutic application of robotic technology.
• Delivery of personalized robotic therapy interventions for 1,150 children with disabilities.
• Community outreach and awareness initiatives to promote inclusion and the role of technology in rehabilitation.
• Ongoing monitoring of outcomes and quarterly evaluation of beneficiaries’ progress to ensure impact and continuous improvement.

Sustainability:

CRIT operates an annual fundraising campaign specifically focused on sustaining its operations and maintenance of specialized equipment, including the robotic therapy units introduced by this project.

CRIT may charge a small therapy fee for some sessions, which can be partially covered by government funds. These fees represent only a fraction of the actual cost, and the income generated will be reinvested directly into the maintenance, traininig and operation of the robotic therapy program.

1. Social Impact and Credibility
CRIT is a highly recognized institution in Mexico for its work in the rehabilitation of children and young people with physical, neuromusculoskeletal disabilities or chronic diseases. A partnership with an organization of this magnitude not only increases the credibility of the project, but also demonstrates a commitment to social impact, something that resonates with donors, collaborators, and the community at large.

2. Experience and Specialized Knowledge
CRIT has years of experience and knowledge in the treatment and inclusion of people with disabilities. Its network of trained professionals will bring a scientific and best practice-based approach to any project involving inclusion or rehabilitation. This experience is invaluable and elevates the quality and effectiveness of the project.

3. Infrastructure and National Reach
CRITs have been present in various parts of Mexico since 1997 and in Poza Rica since 2009, facilitating logistics and the implementation of large-scale projects. Existing infrastructure and its specialized staff offer a robust platform for executing initiatives, ensuring resources are used efficiently and impact is maximized.

4. Alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
CRIT's work is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal 3 (Good health and well-being) and goal 10 (Reduced inequalities). An alliance with them would allow the project not only to have a tangible impact, but also to contribute to these global goals, which can attract sponsors interested in sustainable and high social impact projects.

5. Strategic Networks and Collaborations
CRIT is an NGO and has a history of collaborations with government, business and NGO entities. Joining forces with them opens the door to other strategic connections and potential supports that can amplify the reach and resources of this and several projects.

Partnering with a respected organization like CRIT enhances the project's perception of social responsibility. In addition, many other companies and organizations value CRIT, which can attract more investment and support.

CRIT has been characterized by its transparency in the management of funds and its ethical approach. Partnering with an institution that is perceived as honest and effective is a major factor in justifying an alliance, as it ensures that resources will be used optimally and with integrity.

A partnership with CRIT will not only enhance the impact of the project, but also strengthen its legitimacy, scope and long-term sustainability.
